How much money do you spend in a day? It’s very likely you don’t know, and you probably don’t spend the same amount everyday. Unless you meticulously budget your money and are very stingy, you could probably use some help saving money everyday. If you are having trouble finding ways to save, here are some save money tips to get you started.

  1. Cut back on subscription entertainment. Do you have cable? Do you receive hundreds of channels? If you do, you problem only watch a few and it’s likely that if you are getting your money’s worth, you are watching too much television. Cut down to the most basic cable or cut it out completely and watch dvds and your favorite shows on hulu.com.
  2. Limit your time out. Gas prices are up and just cutting out a few extra trips a week can make a big difference on how much you spend on gas. If you go out to eat, to the movies, or out for drinks often, you can save a lot on that too. Have friends come over and bring snacks, or stay home and watch a movie.
  3. Eat healthier. Fresh fruits and vegetables can be expensive, but if you eat less overall and cut out all the junk, it can still save you money. Cut out all the beverages and just drink water. Buy a water filter for you tap if you want purer water. Don’t buy junk food just buy what you need and always use coupons. If you’re still convinced eating vegetables will break your budget, grow your own.
  4. Save water and electricity. You might be surprised at how much water and electricity you can save. Take shorter showers, don’t let the water run unnecessarily, and turn things off when you’re not using them. Be aware of what you’re doing and you’ll notice you waste more than necessary.
  5. Go shopping with an agenda and stick with it. When you head out to the store, whether it’s the grocery store or the mall, bring a list of exactly what you’re going to buy. Head straight for those items and do not browse. Shopping around and browsing can take a big chunk out of your wallet.
  6. Don’t go to convenience stores. Add to that Dunkin Donuts, Starbucks, or any place that sells coffee or snacks. Buying coffee everyday is much more expensive than making your own and buying candy and gum regularly can add up as well, plus you don’t need it.
  7. Make a budget. You won’t know what you can and can’t afford if you don’t know where you’re spending your money. Keep track of your money and make a budget detailing how much you can spend and when. Most importantly, stick with that budget!
